Here is some news hot from the press! Leonardo da Vinci was the leader of an occult group called the “Priory of Sion” The
astounding theory claims that the great genius, was a Spiritual Master, the keeper of some universal code that he immortalised in his paintings. Certainly, it has to be said the enigmatic Mona Lisa smile confounds all who see it, but could there be something else, something even more mysterious behind that eerie expression?
So was Da Vinci really a metaphysician, an esoteric genius as some people claim, a man who attached great magical importance to his creations? Certainly he would not have painted symbols in his masterpieces if he did not have a reason for it. Tests have shown they hide behind the pupils of the Mona Lisa, obviously the darker colours of the painting, but why? For now the question is open ended as an investigation into the secrets of the Mona Lisa has only recently been initiated.
Who was the Mona Lisa? Was she, as some claim, Lisa Gheradini, the wife of a Florentine banker, the artist’s mother, or even Leonardo himself? Why did Da Vinci carry the painting around in the last years of his life? Apparently, he could not bear to let it out of his sight. Did he have some strange liaison with Gheradini, was he a mother’s boy, was the Mona Lisa a self portrait?
Nick Pisa, Rome correspondent for the Daily Telegraph recently confirmed this fascinating news about the Mona Lisa, he wrote:
“.. members of Italy’s National Committee for Cultural Heritage have revealed that by magnifying high resolution images of the Mona Lisa’s eyes, letters and numbers can be seen.
“To the naked eye the symbols are not visible but with a magnifying glass they can clearly be seen,” said Silvano Vinceti, president of the Committee.
“In the right eye appear to be the letters LV which could well stand for his name Leonardo Da Vinci while in the left eye there are also symbols but they are not as defined.
“It is very difficult to make them out clearly but they appear to be the letters CE or it could be the letter B – you have to remember the picture is almost 500 years old so it is not as sharp and clear as when first painted.
“While in the arch of the bridge in the background the number 72 can be seen, or it could be an L and the number 2.”
But was Da Vinci really a member of that esoteric Priory of Sion group as claimed, were his beliefs cult-like? In his best seller “The Da Vinci Code” Dan Browne wrote that the “Priory of Sion’s” intention was to keep the most extraordinary secret in history hush hush. That secret was Mary Magdalene’s marriage to Jesus, a theory based on a highly controversial nonfiction book called “Holy Blood, Holy Grail” written by Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh and Henry Lincoln in the early 1980’s”.
Whatever the occult reasons, once we clap eyes on the Mona Lisa we sense something more than fascinating about that smile, certainly it is a great work of art, but there is also a sinister feel to the work, because from whatever angle you look at that painting it feels like the Mona Lisa is gazing directly into your soul. It as if she has a special message for you.
So what is the ultimate mystery of the Mona Lisa? Could her eyes be emanating a magical universal energy that transforms us in some way? What was Leonardo’s intention when he painted that picture? Perhaps one day we will find out, perhaps one day those who are investigating the painting will come up with an answer.
