Are fashion psychics guiding our designers towards creating the latest modish fad? It is well known that the House of Dior has always been into the metaphysical. The great man himself, kept in touch with his deceased mother via his favourite medium In fact, the industry considers anything paranormal as more than conducive to inspired style, for example Yves Saint Laurent could not get through a collection without consulting his astrologist.
The current team of Dior designers has followed in their great master’s footsteps, leaning on clairvoyants or palmists to predict the success of an up and coming collection, especially since the competition is rife and one never knows which way the modish tide will turn.
The New York Times reported that Stella Starsky, author of “Sextrology” Harper Collins 2004, also an avid stargazer is convinced that “People are hungry right now for meaning, for symbols and archetypes.”
Astrology has more to do with inner meaning of our personal archetype and how we express it in our lives than we are aware of. Certainly if we let fashion psychics lead our way, perhaps even inspire us to chic alternatives, our inner self would reflect well on to what we wear. In fact, even though we watch celebrity style, and some of us imitate it, we usually end up developing our own look. If we have no time to spend in front of the mirror, we will be casual, untailored, informal. However if we are feeling flirty, we could look as sexy as Madonna, as edgy as Kate Moss and as eccentric as Lady Gaga, depending on the needs of our inner persona in a given moment.
The most inspiring fashion icons of the 20th century were the Libran, Brigitte Bardot, who took the world by storm with her dark pencilled eyes, blonde hair and sex kitten gingham frocks; Leo Jackie Onassis who wooed her fans with big hair, and cute little pill box hats and Cancer, Diana Princess of Wales’ whose modish ways stole the world’s heart! They all stunned with their inimitable elegance certainly. Their personalities were quite clearly defined through their looks and their modish flair. Did they consult fashion psychics? Well, probably; in any event, Princess Diana was a metaphysical fan!
So as we mix and match the current vogues with our personal taste, or worry whether the latest modish fads will come in our dress size, should we consult style gurus about our potential new look? Certainly, if we do not want to float around in what the fashion pundit Ms Starsky called “a sea of sameness” and yes, an empath might advise us to invest in some distinctive “ensemble” that changes our view of ourselves, and perhaps even our life purpose.
Mr Cox, a well known US fashion consultant said “We’re just sort of telling people to use astrology to embrace their archetypes. Use it as a window into your individualism. We want to deprogram people so they can lose the pretty dresses and stop looking like terrified escapees from the pages of last month’s Vogue.”
The psychic world encapsulates all human experience, and nothing expresses that experience into the world more creatively than fashion. Christian Dior knew it, Yves Saint Laurent knew it, and deep down we know it. So consulting fashion psychics might be just the right solution if we want to revamp our wardrobe and give our lives a face lift!
